England 1-1 Guinea
The Young Lions of England played out an entertaining 1-1 game with Guinea in the first round of action at the ongoing Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup. England had their noses in front thanks to a superb header by Kaylen Hinds. Naby Bangoura brought Guinea back on level-pegging after latching onto a through pass by his teammate Jules Keita, earning Guinea a share of the spoils in their Group B opener. England’s Marcus Edwards failed to find the back of the net from the spot after he was fouled in the Guinean penalty area by Fode Camara.
Edwards was a constant threat to Guinea’s defense, and it came as no surprise that the skillful Tottenham Hotspur attacker used his trickery to earn the Three Lions a penalty. It took a rather late sliding tackle by Camara to bring him down in the box, however Edwards failed to beat goalkeeper Moussa Camara.
On the other end, Alfie Whitman stood tall in goal for England, managing to deny a swift Ives Camara from slotting home after charging past the English defense. The teams went into the break goalless following an action-packed opening period.
Arsenal duo Chris Willock and Kaylen Hinds combined well in the second half to put England ahead on the scoresheet. Willock sent in a beautiful in-swinger which Hinds met with his head to beat Camara in goal in the 61st minute.
Guinea fired back in the 76th minute, as Keita beautifully outsmarted his markers before delivering an inch-perfect through ball which Bangoura poked brilliantly beyond Whitman in goal after maintaining his composure.
Guinea take on Korea, who surprised three-time champions Brazil with a 1-0 win, on Tuesday at 23:00 GMT at Estadio La Portada, in La Serena, Chile. England go up against Brazil at 20:00 GMT at the same venue.
