Just when you think you’ve seen it all in football something happens to remind you that ball is life, and life is cray.
Brazil is home to the some of the best players of all time and ‘joga bonito’ but day to day life in many parts of Brazil is far from pretty. Football often reveals this side of society in many parts of the world and it’s always shocking when its caught on video.
On Tuesday morning, a Brazilian referee took discipline to new levels when he brandished a gun after getting into a heated argument with players and a manager. Reports from the Mirror, say the referee is also a police officer and had kept his gun in the locker room. He then retrieved it when things got out of control and red cards did not seem enough.
Per the Mirror:
Gabriel Murta was kicked and slapped by players from lower-league Amantes de Bola, while the manager invaded the pitch demanding a red card, it is claimed.
Murta, said to be a policeman by day, reacted by racing to the changing rooms and returning with a firearm.
Luckily the gun was not fired and things did not escalate. The video shows the other refs calming him down. According to Bleacher Report the ref is set to undergo a psychological assessment.
The lesson: don’t touch the ref.
Do you think the referee’s actions were excessive after being kicked and slapped? What name should he go by following this incident? Gabriel Murder?
