Having had the choice between the Spain and Senegal, Lazio forward Keita Balde Diao has pledged his allegiance to the Teranga Lions.
The 20-year-old was born in Catalonia to Senegalese parents, and came up through Barcelona’s renowned La Masia academy before signing for the Biancocelesti Primavera in 2011. He has never represented La Roja at youth level.
After failing to be granted citizenship from his native Spain however, Keita’s patience has finally run out as he has chosen Senegal as the national team to represent.
The Teranga Lions most recently met Madagascar in a 2018 World Cup Qualifier second leg encounter, defeating their opponents 3-0.
Senegal’s next international fixture won’t be until next year, when they face Niger for an African Cup of nations qualifier.
Keita made his Serie A debut in a 3-0 win over Chievo on September 15, 2013, at the Stadio Olimpico when he came on as a late substitute for Luis Cavanda.
