Aduana Stars new signing Yahaya Mohammed has rated Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan above Barcelona star Lionel Messi and reigning World Footballer of the year Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gyan currently holds the record as Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 48 goals to his credit.
The Shanghai SIPG attacker has broken several records in Asia after winning the continents footballer of the year on two occasions while playing for UAE side Al Ain.
The former Sunderland attacker further went on to equal Roger Milla’s record as the highest scoring African player at the World Cup after netting in Ghana’s 2-1 loss to Portugal at the 2014 Mundial in Brazil.
The Ghanaian international who is arguably one of the best strikers on the African continent has been overlooked in the African footballer of the year award on countless occasions.
Yahaya Mohammed who returned to the domestic top-flight after ending his contract with Libyan Club Ahly Tripoli believes his Ghanaian compatriot is better than Messi and Ronaldo who are regarded as the World’s best players.
“What Asamoah Gyan is doing here in Ghana is far better than that of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel,” he told Ash FM.
“I shall always rate Asamoah Gyan ahead of the two because if Gyan had been a European, he would have been [more] highly recognized than the two.
“So if Gyan had even played an academy and gotten the opportunities they have, Gyan would have been devastating by now,” added Mohammed.
Messi has won the FIFA Ballon d’Or on four constrictive occasion thus in 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012 with Ronaldo winning it three times (2008, 2013 and 2014).
Gyan who won the BBC African footballer of the year in 2010 finished third behind Samuel Eto’o in the CAF award that same year.
