Highly rated Ghanaian midfielder, Thomas Partey put in a great performance to help Atletico Madrid defeat Barcelona 1 – 0 and progress to the Semi Finals stage of the 2015/16 UEFA Champions League.
Partey, 22, was a second half substitute for the hosts and lasted almost 20 minutes in Wednesday’s game against the Catalan giants at the Vicente Calderón.
The former Real Mallorca anchor-man was employed in central midfield as a deep lying playmaker, where he provided cover for the Atleti back line, pressed the barca midfield and initiated several counter attacks.
His services proved vital as Atletico Madrid managed to hold onto their 1-0 lead until Griuzman scored the winning goal via the spot kick.
Partey’s appearance on Wednesday was his second game in the Champions League this season following his cameo in the first Leg against Barcelona.
With Atletico Madrid a step away from the Grande Finale, Partey will now be hoping to etch his name into the history books as part of the long list of Ghanaian footballers to have won this coveted trophy.
